Home campus faculty led, study abroad courses, service learning, internships, academic exchange (living with a host), COIL: Collaborative Online International Learning – which is working online (using Brightspace) with international student partners on class projects, etc.

Start researching programs and locations of interest; narrow to 3 or so; then make an appointment to meet with Study Abroad Advisor – and do so as early as possible.

Yes, but you must have the courses pre-approved through the NCC Study Abroad office and Registrar BEFORE registering for the course(s). FAFSA will only pay for courses that count toward the degree. ÿÈÕ³Ô¹Ï must earn at least 33 credits at NCC to earn a NCC degree (study abroad courses do not count toward that total, unless it’s a NCC faculty-led study abroad course.)

• Art 102 (Art History) – travels to Italy (end of May or summer)
• BIO 219 (Field Biology) – travels to Ethiopia, France? (summer)
• ANT 203 (Cultural Anthropology - travels to Ethiopia, France? (summer)

• Make sure to have your passport and valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the planned study abroad program. Make at least 3-4 copies of your passport photo page (1, leave at home; 2, place in luggage; 3, keep on your person always). Do NOT travel with your passport all the time, unless advised otherwise by a group leader, faculty member or embassy).
• Make sure to apply and secure any travel visas well in advance of travel. Make copies and keep in separate places and with you.
• Make sure your cell phone works internationally and inquire with your carrier for various plans.

• Bring some currency but not too much. Bring at least 2 different credit cards (of different types (MC and Visa are best), with no foreign transaction fees) for most spending; set a budget for all anticipated expenses. Exchange for currency in host country if necessary.
• Make sure you have secured your travel health insurance before departure – and bring insurance card with you (and make copies).
• Make sure you receive any/all vaccinations, immunizations, etc.
• Make sure you bring all necessary and anticipated medications, plus some OTC (e.g. Advil, cough drops, etc.), plus sunscreen.
• Be very careful about alcohol, other drug use abroad – there are different laws and protocols.
• Try not to travel alone, especially at night in an unknown area.
• Be aware of pickpockets, petty theft.
• Always take official taxis, buses or trains, not Uber; do not hitchhike.
• Pack sensibly (not too much jewelry, expensive items), bring sensible walking shoes - and remember electrical adapters/converters
• Bring a journal to log experiences and reflections; write a travel blog?
